What is Target ADSD EDI?

Target ADSD (Automated Direct Store Delivery) is for vendors who deliver straight to Target stores instead of a distribution center. It’s a separate connection from Target Retail, using its own store-delivery ship notice structure rather than the carton-level ASN Retail requires.

Tech85 Owl - Bright

Target’s Automated Direct Store Delivery program is for vendors who deliver straight to Target stores instead of a distribution center. There’s no DC to catch mistakes. Your ship notice is checked against the delivery at the store’s back door. Tech85 runs ADSD as its own connection, with the store-delivery ship notice Target requires, and keeps your orders and invoices aligned with Target Retail so nothing drifts.

Ensure compliance, efficiency, and growth by connecting with Target ADSD through Tech85’s custom-fit EDI solutions.

What we handle for you

  • A dedicated ADSD connection. ADSD has its own Target identifier. Adding store delivery onto a Target Retail connection sends documents to the wrong place. We keep ADSD separate, so orders, ship notices, and invoices always go to the right program.
  • The store-delivery ship notice. ADSD ship notices are structured by shipment, order, and item, without the carton level Target Retail requires. We build the ADSD version, not a retail ASN with pieces removed.
  • Orders and invoices that stay in step with Retail. ADSD orders, changes, and invoices follow the same structure as Target Retail. When Target updates those documents, your ADSD connection updates with them.
  • Every delivery reconciled. We match every acknowledgment back to the document that produced it, so a transmission Target didn’t accept shows up the same day.

How it works

  1. Confirm your program. Target has you set up for Automated Direct Store Delivery.
  2. We configure your connection. ADSD is already built on our platform, including the store-delivery ship notice.
  3. We certify with Target on Target’s ADSD test identifiers.
  4. You go live. Store orders flow in, and ship notices and invoices flow out automatically.

Technical notes

ADSD uses the same non-standard segment terminator as Target Retail on outbound invoices and ship notices, and we configure it per document. Unlike Target Retail, ADSD isn’t set up for summary invoicing. Most ADSD vendors also sell through Target Retail, which is a separate connection.

Frequently asked questions

Tech85

How long does it take to become EDI-compliant with a new retailer?
Most Tech85 clients complete EDI onboarding and testing in 6–8 days, compared to the 6–8 weeks common with legacy EDI providers — because setup is handled by our team, not left to you to configure alone.
What if I'm already compliant but want to switch providers?
Tech85 maps your existing trading partner connection during onboarding, so there’s no gap in order processing and no need to renegotiate your relationship with the retailer.

Target ADSD

What EDI documents does Target ADSD require?
Purchase orders (850), changes (860), and notifications (864) come from Target. Suppliers send the store-delivery advance ship notice (856) and invoice (810).
How is Target ADSD’s ASN different from Target Retail’s?
ADSD ship notices are structured by shipment, order, and item, without the carton level Target Retail requires. Tech85 builds the ADSD version specifically, not a retail ASN with pieces removed.
Does Target ADSD use summary invoicing?
No. Unlike Target Retail, ADSD isn’t set up for summary invoicing.
Is Target ADSD the same connection as Target Retail?
No. ADSD has its own Target identifier. Most ADSD vendors also sell through Target Retail, which is a separate connection with its own documents.
