What is Macy's Vendor Direct Fulfillment (VDF) EDI?

Vendor Direct Fulfillment (VDF) is Macy’s drop-ship program — Macy’s sells a product online and the supplier ships it directly to the customer under the Macy’s name. It runs through CommerceHub on its own connection, separate from Macy’s Retail, and depends on an accurate inventory feed.

Tech85 Owl - Bright

Vendor Direct Fulfillment is Macy’s drop-ship program. Macy’s sells your product online, and you ship it straight to the customer under the Macy’s name. We’ve supported VDF suppliers for years. VDF runs through CommerceHub on its own connection, separate from Macy’s Retail, and Tech85 manages every part of it, from the inventory feed to the final invoice.

Ensure compliance, efficiency, and growth by connecting with Macy's Vendor Direct Fulfillment (VDF) through Tech85’s custom-fit EDI solutions.

What we handle for you

  • An inventory feed that keeps orders coming. Macy’s only sells what it can see. We automate the inventory feed from your system, so your products stay available and Macy’s doesn’t oversell.
  • Cancellations handled before they ship. When Macy’s cancels an order, we get the request into your system right away, so it doesn’t go out the door.
  • Macy’s branded packing slips. VDF orders ship with a Macy’s branded packing slip, not a retail carton label. We produce it to Macy’s VDF packing slip specification.
  • Ship confirmations and invoices. Every shipment is confirmed with tracking and invoiced automatically, so orders close cleanly and payment follows.
  • Built to Macy’s VDF program guide. We follow Macy’s VDF vendor guide and supplier test plan, so certification goes smoothly.

Some suppliers also stock Macy’s own direct-to-consumer fulfillment centers (Macy’s Customer Fulfillment) — a separate Macy’s connection with its own orders, ship notices, invoices, inventory, and GS1-128 labels, which we support alongside VDF.

How it works

  1. Confirm your program. You ship Macy’s online orders directly to customers.
  2. We configure your connection through CommerceHub.
  3. We test, starting with the inventory feed, then an order through confirmation and invoice.
  4. You go live. Orders flow in as Macy’s sells your products, and confirmations flow back automatically.

Technical notes

VDF runs through CommerceHub with its own identifiers and doesn’t share a connection with Macy’s Retail. Suppliers on both programs need both connections.

Frequently asked questions

Tech85

How long does it take to become EDI-compliant with a new retailer?
Most Tech85 clients complete EDI onboarding and testing in 6–8 days, compared to the 6–8 weeks common with legacy EDI providers — because setup is handled by our team, not left to you to configure alone.
What if I'm already compliant but want to switch providers?
Tech85 maps your existing trading partner connection during onboarding, so there’s no gap in order processing and no need to renegotiate your relationship with the retailer.
