What is Bealls EDI?

Bealls EDI is the electronic exchange of purchase orders, acknowledgments, shipment information, invoices, and routing instructions between Bealls and its suppliers. Bealls requires the 855 purchase order acknowledgment from EDI-capable suppliers, and is currently modernizing its EDI program through OpenText, with updated transaction and testing requirements for trading partners.

Tech85 Owl - Bright

Bealls runs a mature EDI program, and Tech85 already supports Bealls trading workflows across orders, acknowledgments, shipment information, invoicing, and routing. As Bealls modernizes through OpenText, suppliers are being asked to update how they connect, test, and acknowledge transactions, including the newly required 855 purchase order acknowledgment. Testing with OpenText can turn into a long back and forth, so Tech85 handles all of the testing correspondence for our clients. Suppliers often worry they’re using the wrong EDI provider, but Tech85 is the EDI solution for many Bealls suppliers, who use OpenText only on their side and for testing. We manage the rest without a redesign of their order-processing operation.

Ensure compliance, efficiency, and growth by connecting with Bealls through Tech85’s custom-fit EDI solutions.

Why Bealls suppliers choose Tech85

  • Bealls-specific mapping. A document number alone tells only part of the story — two retailers can both use an 850 or 856 and still require different data, qualifiers, and business rules. We maintain mapping specific to how Bealls interprets and expects each transaction.
  • Order acknowledgments, automated. Bealls now explicitly requires the 855 purchase order acknowledgment. We generate it from your actual order-processing workflow rather than adding a manual task for your team.
  • ASN and carton alignment. The 856 advance ship notice has to represent what physically shipped. We connect shipment and carton information from your warehouse or ERP workflow to the Bealls ASN, so the electronic shipment, the physical cartons, and Bealls’ receiving process all agree.
  • Invoice automation. Once a shipment is complete, we generate the 810 invoice from your underlying transaction data and deliver it through the Bealls connection, without rekeying the order into another system.
  • Exception monitoring. A connection isn’t finished just because a file transmitted. We monitor acknowledgments and rejected transactions so an order, ASN, or invoice doesn’t disappear between systems without anyone noticing.

How it works

  1. We review your Bealls requirement. Whether you’re onboarding as a new supplier or updating an existing connection, we confirm exactly what’s changed and what you need.
  2. We configure your connection. Your Bealls-specific mapping, identifiers, and document set go into a connection built on our existing Bealls experience.
  3. We test with Bealls. Including the newly required 855 acknowledgment and any testing Bealls’ EDI modernization requires.
  4. You go live. Orders flow in, and acknowledgments, ASNs, and invoices flow back out automatically, with ongoing exception monitoring.

Frequently asked questions

Tech85

How long does it take to become EDI-compliant with a new retailer?
Most Tech85 clients complete EDI onboarding and testing in 6–8 days, compared to the 6–8 weeks common with legacy EDI providers — because setup is handled by our team, not left to you to configure alone.
What if I’m already compliant but want to switch providers?
Tech85 maps your existing trading partner connection during onboarding, so there’s no gap in order processing and no need to renegotiate your relationship with the retailer.

Bealls

What EDI documents does Bealls require?
Bealls supports the purchase order (850), purchase order acknowledgment (855), purchase order change (860), change acknowledgment (865) where applicable, advance ship notice (856), invoice (810), routing request (753) and routing instructions (754), inventory inquiry/advice (846) where applicable, and functional acknowledgment (997). Bealls’ current supplier EDI FAQ identifies the 855 as required; exact transaction sets can vary by supplier program.
Is the Bealls purchase order acknowledgment required?
Yes. Bealls now explicitly requires the 855 purchase order acknowledgment from EDI-capable suppliers. The 865 change acknowledgment is optional and applies only where a purchase order change is issued. Tech85 generates the acknowledgment from your existing order-processing workflow rather than adding a manual step.
What is the Bealls EDI modernization, and does it affect my connection?
Bealls is currently directing suppliers through an EDI modernization process involving OpenText, with updated transaction requirements and testing. Tech85 manages those changes as part of your existing connection, so your order-processing operation doesn’t need to be redesigned around them.
What should suppliers know about Bealls ASN and carton alignment?
The Bealls advance ship notice has to match what physically shipped. Tech85 connects shipment and carton information from your warehouse or ERP workflow to the Bealls ASN, so the electronic shipment, physical cartons, and Bealls’ receiving process stay aligned.
